if the slipper fits…

a friend of mine is adopting her 5 month old niece and I made these booties for her baby shower. my first pair of crochet slippers. the pattern I based them on suggested you buy a small strip of elastic and sew it to the inside of the slipper. (ew!) that hideous image in my head prompted me to make my own strap for the bootie… so I did.
I used vintage yellow buttons on the bootie to bring out the adorable felt fabric I used for the inside sole of the shoe. I cut out cardboard rounds and covered them with the felt and hot glued in place. I didn’t attatch them to the shoe itself, that way mommy can still wash the booties when needed. (leave it to a fellow mommy to think of that)
I definitely want to try these in a bigger size for my daughter Zoe, as a slipper to wear around the house. She thought the baby slippers were too cute, and promptly put in an order for her own personal pair. (she’s only 5, and already a slave to fashion. what can I say she is my daughter.)

I crocheted a baby poncho to go with the slippers, as a “set”. it took the better part of a weekend. I used a stitch I wasn’t familiar with, so it was slow-going at first. it turned out alright. not my favorite pattern, maybe I’ll try a different one next time I do a poncho.

our digital camera died last month, so I had to take a pic with my father in law’s manual Nikon. I apolagize for the terrible quality, but it’s all I had at the time…
