"The Sky is Falling!"

By seven o’clock, Monday morning, our house took on the role of an Artillery Bunker, as I slept soundly beneath my fluffy down covers.

It was Re-roofing Day One at the Hudson’s dwelling.

These guys didn’t waste any time at all. Punctual and serious about the job. Looking out the window, I feel like Bugs Bunny. Falling dirt accompanied by soft, brown dust plumes after each and every loud bang from the ceiling of our rabbit hole.

“What’s up, Doc?”

I guess it never occurred to me just how rowdy these guys have to get to be able to dislodge four layers of finely aged roof shingles from our home’s hundred year old frame.
I figured it would be like removing a cast off of a fragile Geriatric….take it slow and easy. Don’t wanna kick up to much dust or break anything you can’t stitch back on.

But as Tim Gunn would say, these guys are here to, “Get. It. Done!”

My poor little three-year-old is spending the day over at grandma’s, which is good, considering he would probably feel like Chicken Little right about now.

“Mommy, the sky is falling!”

Today was Zoe’s first day back to school and she was thrilled to be leaving the bomb shelter she now calls home. I can’t say as I blame her.

“Can I go to school with you?”

Zach, unfortunately, doesn’t start Kindergarten until next Tuesday. So he’s stuck in the war zone with mom.

I think perhaps, today might be a good day for the park, away from all of the madness….and raining debris.

As I type this, I can feel my butt AND my feet vibrate from the craziness going on from the roof.
A sensation I have never experienced prior, nor do I enjoy.

*cough*

By the end of the day, I think I’ll be able to, with all sincerity, hold both of my hands out in front of me, 3 feet apart and declare, “I’ve got a headache THIS big!”

I cannot wait until this whole thing is over and done! A pretty, new shiny roof and clear blue skies out my window.

Now, it’s off to the park. Let’s see…..where do I keep my shovel?

  1. re-roofing, ick! i mean, it’s nice in the end but i’ve been through is twice and the noise is awful – i feel for you!

  2. That is a funny way to describe it–I bet it was loud and awful. But soon it shall be done.
