when it rains…

so, here is the gist of my day.

I awoke to a healthy family. well, a seemingly healthy family.
these days, healthy is a far cry.

I went about my morning, posted on my blog, finished some laundry and put away some things that were in boxes.

by 1:30, it was time for me to go on my weekly cleaning job that I do with my sister.
except, we usually do it on Wednesdays.
only, we couldn’t do it this Wednesday because as you may recall
we all were submerged beneath the black death plague.

so I spent three hours cleaning and then headed home.
before even pulling out of the driveway, my husband called me.

“Your brother has just been admitted to the hospital.”

he, too had fallen victim to the flu but 2 days ago, we learned it was colitis.

he was put on antibiotics but was still vomiting, only now it had blood in it.
a substantial amount of it in his stool as well.

I got to the hospital just before 5pm and the doctor was still in the process of sending away for labs, cultures, any known history of noble birth.
you know, the usual.

by 6pm, my mother, sister and I were all starving so we called for dinner from the cafeteria.
I no sooner got off the phone when my cell phone rang.

no worries. just Jason asking for an update on my brother.

no.
blood curdling screams in the background.
Jason yelling, “Zander is throwing up!”

this is when I may have blacked out.
I cannot imagine how on earth this could be happening.
again.

but that’s not all.
there’s a door prize.

next came:
“this looks like blood in his vomit.”

what?

what is going on around here?
I called the pediatrician on call and he said to bring him into the ER.

now, I’m going to do you all a favor and try my hardest to make this already long story, shorter.

4 1/2 hours, a failed iv placement, 2 electrolyte pops and a half hour iv dose later…..
Zander was discharged at 11:30pm.

I never, ever, ever want to have to straddle my baby again, while someone jams a needle in his arm, tapes him up and then discovers the needle hit tissue instead and that’s why his hand is bright purple and his arm looks like Pop Eye’s.

or have to straddle him a second time, all the while trying to convince him to let the same guy jam another needle in him.

“yeah, right mom. what do you think, I’m stupid?!”

but after the second attempt, it placed well and he just lied back and watched some toons for the course of his iv drip.

oh! and we can’t leave out that Zoe threw up three times while waiting in my brother’s room.
or that Zach threw up just before we left for the hospital.

the ER doc said he suspected something bacterial. (please, God, no ecoli!)
but we won’t find out until the stool culture results come back on Monday.

as for my brother, Kody. his doctor wants a colonoscopy done in the morning.
all the while, my mother is trying to make decisions without my dad around.
because dad is at home in bed, going on his third day of vomiting and doped up on meds his doctor has prescribed.

I think, at this point, if we asked if Kody could get breast implants, my dad would say, “Okay. let me know how it goes.”

well, that is my day in a nutshell.
and I thought I would share it with all of you since I am wide awake at 3 am with a headcold.

yep. a headcold.
when it rains around here, it doesn’t just pour.
the sky opens up and a huge storm cloud engulfs our house.

I certainly hope we can rid our family of this horribleness.
whatever it is.

and I will keep you all updated on everyone’s health.
or lack there of.

  1. I don’t know what to say after reading your last blog? I can’t imagine how hard it must be for your entire family to be that sick, for that long. But please I beg of you get better soon!

  2. Kalurah,
Pardon my language but “What the hell?!” So sorry and concerned about what you guys are going through. The good thing though is at least there will be tests done to see what’s going on. At this point, it really does seem like much more than the flu, right?Anyway, I’m glad it’s being investigated. Hope you guys find out the results soon and life gets back to normal for you. Stay strong!

  3. I really hope you feel better – reading your posts all I could think was “I so hope they can visit a doctor soon!” I’ve had bugs before, but nothing like what you’ve described – our positive thoughts are all with you!!!

  4. Oh sweetie! I’m so, so sorry. Your family (all of them and YOU too!) and in my prayers. Hang tight. This is going to get better, it is. I promise.

  5. thank you all for your kind words!
all I can do right now is wash my hands every 30 seconds, spray the entire house with Lysol and pray.
pray that this is all over soon and never EVER comes back again!
