heart melting…

my therapy, among other very insignificant things, is embroidery. I’ve mentioned this previously. but I’ve discovered an even more tranquil porthole that co-exists with the peacefulness that is “embroidery”.
my three year old drew his very first picture of an airplane and even wrote out his name for the first time! the next day, he found the sheet of paper in his tablet and proceeded to rip it out and attempted to crumple it up! my heart began to sink, as I quickly grabbed it from his little hands. “no”, I said, “mommy wants to save this!” and then it occurred to me, I should preserve this small piece of artistic history for all eternity.
embroider it! ah, ha!
I layed vellum over the top and traced it, first with a sharp pointed pencil, to maintain all the fine details and then went over that with a fine tip Sharpie. layed that over a crisp white sheet of paper, then put the linen over those and traced the linen with a pencil.
I’m quite sure there is an easier way of doing this, but I was working with what I had. and that included a caffiene-starved brain, running on 5 hours of sleep.
at any rate, I placed the linen in it’s hoop home and began my tranquil journey. I spent the next hour and a half imagining my little man, all grown up, pulling this out of a box to look at when he started to miss home, and his mommy. (I call these moments “hoop dreams”.) I have alot of them whilst amid my embroidering.
this particular project, I found to be quite heart melting.

  1. how sweet! You should turn it into a small throw pillow for his room.

  2. Kalurah,

What a GREAT idea! I haven’t thought of this before, but what a sweet method of preservation. Seeing that embroidered picture will always remind him of how special his mama thinks he is.
I looked at that Pioneer Woman website last week when someone left a comment for you telling you about it. I just loved it also. Her stories are hilarious, although she mentions picking her toes and toejam a little too much for my comfort level. hehe. It’s hard to believe she has 4 kids and can have the presence of mind enough to be funny!

  3. Laurie,
I think you would pretty much be FORCED into having a good sense of humor with FOUR kids!
I know what you mean regarding all the toejam comments! but have you yet discovered her soundclips of all her “burps” that she is so proud of???
    (no, I’m not joking!)
thanks for being such a loyal reader, Laurie! take care.
