My absolute favorite angle to shoot from….
Lying on the ground.
It doesn’t matter what your subject is. Children, animals, landscapes.
Somehow, bringing yourself down to the same level as your subject brings you that much closer to it once you’ve looked back on it, as a photograph.
You can see it in a new light now. You don’t take it for granted. You understand it, you believe it.
As much as I loved this photograph, it felt like something was missing. As I lie there in the grass, focusing on the blades of grass, I could feel the warm sunshine beating down softly on my nose.
I could smell the summer air and freshly sprinklered ground.
All of these elements seemed to disappear when I looked back on the photo. Where was it all?
There are some things you just can’t capture with a camera.
For these types of photographs, I wanted a way to add depth, nostalgia and emotion.
After a little tweaking in PhotoShop and a large amount of assistance from my expert-husband, I was able to come up with a beautiful treatment.
The original photo, in itself, was beautiful but when you look at it again through this frame, it just feels as if you are there. It suddenly feels personal, alive. Like you almost could believe that you were there.
Seriously, now….which photo do you prefer?

The first one.
I like the first one for the crispness and I actually find myself squinting when I look at it, like I am looking into the sun myself. I wasn’t really sure how you would make it better, as I was reading. But the second one . . . .I actually feel like I am in the 40’s, or 50’s, in a lounge chair, sipping on an Arnold Palmer. Seriously makes me immediately feel like an old time southern belle, or something. Hard choice, but I do like Arnold Palmers, so I would probably pick the secind one. ๐ hehehehe
I like the top one best because it has got lots of sunlight! ๐
love Zoe
I like both! The second definitely has a more intimate feeling and I like the mood of it very much. The treatment that you did really makes the DOF pop. It’s quite delicious!!
Amy,
Yes! You broke the fray! I knew there had to be someone who thought like me. ๐
Evie,
Thanks! Yeah, I feel very “moody” when I look at the second one. It just makes me feel like I’m living in a totally different era. And maybe as if I am a different person when I look at it.
Does that make sense?
