every Labor Day weekend, our town has it’s annual Fair Frontier Days with a Rodeo and Parade along with other events.
I’ve never been the person who frequents fairs or the Rodeo. (what can I say, there’s a big-city heart trapped inside this small-city girl.
on Saturday morning, we were awakened by horse hooves clapping on the street outside.
we opened the front door and there it was.
the fair was coming to us.
the annual Parade was making it’s way down our very street!
the kids were jumping up and down with excitement.
(okay, so my children have never seen a parade before. not to mention, one coming down the street in front of our house!)
they saw Fair Princesses.
an Indian Princess.
a Cowboy.
we even saw a Fair “Clown”.
they were riding atop a van and throwing candy at the kids.
to which they just stared towards the ground at.
thinking to self, “Why are they throwing stuff at us?”
we had to explain to them that it was candy and when we told them to pick it up and eat it, their little eyes suddenly grew huge.

“You mean we can eat candy right off the ground? And you won’t even yell at us!!??”
about 40 minutes and 300 horse patties later, the Parade was over.
and our kids got their first small taste of the Fair.
without us even having to leave our yard.

Sarah,
I know! 😛
this kept the kids well entertained while my hubbie and I staked out our post holes in the back yard! 😉
It seems so weird to me that your kids have never seen a parade. I grew up on the fair and parades, it was a cherished event every year. We even got a special candy bag every year.
I’m glad they got to enjoy one, and that you didn’t yell at them for eating candy off the ground. *wink*
