thank you all so much for your caring words! I really appreciate it. and you know, at the end of the day, when I’ve sighed my way all over the place and I’m at the very lowest point possible, I always have my blog gals to cheer me up. you are always here to give me support through your lovely words.
thank you SO much for that!
now that said, ladies….
yep, you knew it was coming. I am going to rain on my own parade.
last night, Jason notified me that our living room television has lost it’s will to live. it, apparantly, has also called a strike along with it’s friend, the toilet.
and after returning my father-in-laws truck to him after our move, we got our car back from him and it seems, the A/C has also decided to call it quits.
AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
what next???
to escape all the worries of the tv, the car A/C and the 105 degree inferno outside, I’ve been slowly opening boxes and trying to get things put in their proper place.
upon doing so, I’ve discovered something.
um…..yeah,…..I’m gonna need another kitchen!
no, not a different kitchen. just a second one.
that’s all.
I’ve put all the food away already and managed to make it all fit.
then I walked into the sunroom……….
AHHH! about 8 boxes of baking things!
(okay, okay. so I’m a bit of a Shiite Baker! I do ALOT of it and I take it very seriously!)
so, about that space problem…..
any ideas, ladies????
the only spot left in the kitchen is the wall where the stove is.
an entire wall of free space above a counter and a baking cart.
I priced cabinets at Kmart and Home Depot and
oh
my
word
!
if I had that kind of moolah, I would be having Sears redo all my cabinets, not be moping around Home Depot with my mouth wide open!
so, let’s hear it, girlies! whatdayathink?
any suggestions? helpful space-saving hints?
don’t fail me now, ladies!

Ok! Here’s what we did in our laundry room to create a “pantry”. We used a metal shelf unit that we picked at Costco for about $80. It’s one of those industrial sized numbers with adjustable rack shelves and wheels on the bottom. Then I found a shower curtain that had tie tops (although you could easily just use any curtain and use ribbon instead) and tied the curtain at the top of the shelf to hide the clutter. The curtain is easily pulled back when I need to get in, but the rest of the time, it looks neat and orderly! This summer, I’m going to get some baskets to put on the top shelf to keep the stuff above organized and PRETTY. ๐
its a temporary fix….
make a batch each of your top 10 recipes, box them up…then I’ll send you my address ๐ LOL ok ok, kidding!
Uhm…here we have a “re-store” store (its a resale shop for house stuff) if you had something like that you could at least pick up one good wall cabinet.
or just put up some shelves (the kind with the metal brackets running up and down) I know, not super attractive, but they do work.
or…that second kitchen might not be such a bad idea ๐
This isn’t my area of expertise (trust me, look at my house!)
I have the same problem….
forget what I said! listen to wende! ๐
Wende,
you know, I keep coming back to the that same idea! the metal shelving was my first thought and I keep wandering away from it, to explore other options and I end up coming back to the metal shelving, bless it.
I didn’t even consider the curtain idea, though! I just kept imagining it as sort of an indusrtrial style bakery/kitchen type look.
which is another option I am toying with.
thanks for your excellent advice!
Sarah,
hey! if I had time, honey, I would be baking my brains out right now and sharing the “love” all over. (including you!)
I used to work in Pediatrics at the local clinic and I would bake things and bring them into everybody. they hated me for it! I would sit there and watch them stuff their faces in glee. I rarely eat the stuff I make, I just love shoving food down people. it’s very fulfilling,…er…filling.(tee, hee)
i think you should go with your idea, since you’ve thought about it in the past… i think it’ll look great on that green wall. i LOVE that color by the way. ikea is usually a good place to find small space solutions, i don’t know if there’s one near you though. good luck, and i would love to see what you end up doing ๐
I happen to know having seen with my own eyes the very beautiful things your husband and father are capable of that you have to handy men at your disposal. I’m all for the metal cabinets for a temp. fix, but how wide is your new kitchen? Could you put a nice long wide island in the middle – counter space and cabinet space!
Oh Oh! My SIL just posted about what she did to maximize the space in her pantry, maybe it will help.
Also, can you fit an island in there? An island with a lot of storage space? Or hanging the pots- it might free up some cupboard space.
