memory swipe…

this is so hard. as I spent yesterday cleaning walls and doors and windows, I realized…
I am wiping away imprints of memories, of things gone by, of everything we’re leaving behind.

I didn’t think this move was going to be difficult. at all. aside from the rigorous packing and getting the place clean inside and out, the rest would be a breeze!
did I stop to think that this is where we brought our newborn home to? where Zachary took his first steps? where Zoe potty trained and lost her first tooth?

milestones, my friends. milestones.

and I am wiping them away with a warm soapy rag.

I figured I better pull out the camera and capture some of these imprints we are leaving behind, before I banish them forever from the walls and windows.

of course we will keep all these memories alive in our mind and in our hearts.
but it’s still hard. it still stings. I will feel a great loss when we hand over the keys to this place.

every dream I have where I am at home with my family entails being here. in this house, inside these four walls, under this roof.
I can’t imagine it being any different. as hard as I try, I envision all the rooms in this house and all the events from our childrens’ lives. they go hand in hand.

this is just something that will take time, I’m sure. time in the new place, inside four different walls, under a different roof.

this is a chance to create new memories, new milestones.
and something about that comforts me. we’re embarking on a new chapter of our life as a family.
and it begins here.

  1. I can imagine how hard this is for you! We’ve lived in our humble 2 bedroom, 1 bath(yes that’s right, TWO bed, ONE bath, FIVE people!) for 8 years now and someday soon we’ll need to get a bigger space too. It’s gonna be sooo hard. I’m sentimental to a fault.
I looked at your other website and your new house is LOVELY! It’s so sunny and the hardwood floors, you’ll find, are going to be a godsend. But invest in a good broom.
Your laundry room–that’s what we call an extra bedroom here in Monterey. Have fun though on that neverending quest to get your whites to come out whiter(it won’t happen–it never does.)
Cheers to your new house and future wonderful memories!

  2. awww 🙁

When we moved, we’d been there 3 1/2 years, but Zach had only been there a year and a half, I wasn’t sad about the 3 1/2, I was sad about leaving the 1 1/2. And it caught me by surprise, bc we were THRILLED to move, and then one day I realized we were leaving HIS first home, and I got all stupid about it 😉

And my husband had written “I love Sarah Cupp” on the trim around our front door…it took everything within me NOT to rip out the whole piece of trim and take it with me =P

Good luck in the new place! it’ll be “home” before you know it!

  3. Sarah,
by golly, woman. when I read what you said your husband did, I nearly melted into a puddle over my keyboard!
I would have been mighty tempted to yank that door trim down, as well!
did you at least take a pic. of it?

  4. Laurie,
    thanks for your kind words!
regarding your teeny house….”home is where the heart is.”
in the grand scheme of things, all that matters is that your all together!
p.s.you will be the first I tell, when I finally discover the secret to those whites!
