it’s a good thing…

okay, so you’ve probably guessed it, we’re putting in our fence.
this weekend has been long and exhausting.
and we haven’t even finished, yet.
today, we should be able to wrap it all up.

I will definitely be posting pics later on the whole hot, sweaty, grueling process.

but for now,
have a cookie….

between the very exciting post hole digging , concrete mixing and concrete pouring that’s been going on, I needed a break.
a break from the hot sun, the hard work and most importantly, I needed to regain my girl-hood.

digging in the dirt and traipsing around all morning in a white racerback shirt and toolbelt with sweat pouring out of my pits was stripping me of my daintiness. at one point, I even found myself hocking lugie’s and scratching my rear-end.

did you know that when you breathe in 20 bags of concrete through the course of the day, it can actually set your bugars!?

okay. so you get the picture.
it wasn’t looking “pretty”.

after lunch, we had to wait for our poured concrete to set before moving onto the next set of holes.
I used this opportunity to do something “domestic”.
something lady-like.
I baked cookies.
not just any cookies.
“girly” cookies.

cookies that would make “Martha” proud!

Vanilla Butter Cookies

3 sticks unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
2 egg yolks
3 1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 TB vanilla

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in yolks until combined.
Add flour, salt and vanilla.
beat until combined.

Place 1/2 of dough into a large 12″ pastry bag with a star tip.

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
(I spray the pan with nonstick spray, so the parchment doesn’t dance around, while piping.)

Press down into cookie sheet as you squeeze the dough from the bag.
To finish off, just twist the tip and the dough will release.

Bake @350 for about 8-10mins for soft cookies.
Or for 10-14mins for a crispier cookie.

(After 10 mins, I place the cookie sheet on the bottom rack for about 3-4 mins. to crisp up the bottoms.)

Cool on sheet for about 5 minutes, transfer to cooling rack.

Now, put on a lovely shade of pink lipstick, your cutest dress and put a bow in your hair.
You’re now a lady again!

  1. Yum! Are mine in the mail?

Sorry about not getting the girls together as planned. As you probably guessed the migraine madness struck on Thursday. I suffered through a trip to the fair on Saturday, having still a small headache remaining. I kept commmenting to Travis that I don’t remember the fairs being so loud and bright when I was a kid. (Maybe my headacke played a part of that.)

Anyway, maybe next weekend. It’ll be tougher now with school, unless we meet up after they get out for a treat. (Your cookies would be good. *wink*)

    Let me know.

  2. Laurie,
    *blushing*

    Shell,
I’m not sure when would be good to get together.
Zoe is out by noon on Wed. but then I have a WIC appt. and then I have to clean with my sister. 😛
she has Thursday off, so maybe we can get together then. after Syd gets out of school that day, you can come check out our new fenced-in back yard!!!
p.s. the cookies will be waiting. 🙂

  3. Yum! I added a little lemon glaze on the top with lemon juice and powdered sugar..

Ben ate twelve of them in a two hour span. This = Success 🙂
